Session #1: New Friends and a Wedding 1/25/21
Day 1, Duvin 37: After a few days travel, I finally arrived
at Vorin only to be stopped by guards at the gate because of a special event in
the city, the Wedding of Lord Vos-trin to Giamel, Princess of Loria. I handed
them my invitation and they let me inside.
I had no idea why I was invited, but I saw this as an opportunity to
meet new people and learn new things.
The streets were lined with more vendors than usual and I spotted
an attractive half elven lady in a fancy dress (Elairiel) looking over their
wares. She also had a fancy longbow on
her back. Seeing no reason to disturb her, I continued on my
way.
I went straight to I Live to Zerv, the nicest inn in town,
to get a meal and a room to stow my gear.
I wasn’t going to attend the wedding tomorrow in my travel gear. I ordered some food and took note of slovenly,
pudgy human at the bar with a very odd voice and very little manners or
knowledge of life in the city (a shape-shifted Morchid).
As I was finishing my meal, the door opened and a small dark
figure entered and darted into the shadows (Squish). Not someone I’d ever seen before, the Kenku
slipped into the area behind the bar and stole some cheese. I got my room key and headed upstairs after
giving Zerv a 3-gold tip to cover the stolen food.
While going through my nightly routine, the kenku slipped
into my room. Without a word, they curled up on the foot of the bed, and I
decided not to protest. I am going to
finish this entry and go to sleep.
Day 2, Duvin 38: The next morning, after a short chat, Squish
and I went downstairs after hearing a commotion. In the hall, we officially met Elairiel, the
very same woman I had seen when I first entered the city. Her dress was fancier and she still carried
her equally fancy bow. Seems she also
had a room at the inn.
Chaos was brewing between Zerv and a massive firbolg over
some stolen cheese (which we quickly learned that Morchid is allergic to). After I managed to calm things down, I officially
introduced myself to the others. At one
point, Morchid showed us some strange mushrooms that had grown on his arm, and
he took me outside to show me what they could do. One massive explosion later, he got carted
off by the guards while I cleaned up the damage. After that, I went back inside to speak with
the others until Morchid returned. Zerv
was still rather annoyed and told us that breakfast service was canceled.
Though it was still pretty early, we headed off to the wedding. We stopped at another somewhat forgettable tavern
to get some food and get to know each other.
Due to the slow (and surly) service, we barely made it to the wedding on
time. Attendees included the Royals of all
three countries along with some other random-looking strangers.
As the vows were completed, a human in plain clothes stepped
up with a bow to attack the princess. We
all jumped into motion to take the assailant down, along with an odd
clerical-type person named Berry. As the
human fell to Squish’s blade, a second attacker joined the battle, a Yuan Ti woman
who proved to be extremely hard to kill.
During the attack, the distinguished guests were rushed away, but the
princess was struck down, a poisoned arrow in her neck. Once the attackers were dispatched, we rushed
to the princess, but healing wouldn’t do anything. She had died.
Vos’trin called for someone to retrieve the Durrells. Squish and I rushed to the monastery to find
the strange and powerful clerics. They
revived the princess while we examined the bodies. On the Yuan-ti, I found a magic ring (Extreme
Endurance), two daggers, a bow and a Scroll of Banishment. Squish looted the farmer who had a magic ring
as well. (Resistance-Force) The ring
from the snake-woman was cursed and the Durrells took it and stowed it away with
a number of other objects, all presumably cursed as well.
We asked Vos-trin why we were all here, especially a common
farmer and the snake bitch (as Morchid seemed to enjoy calling her.) We had already learned that Elariel was related
to the Princess, a cousin or something, but the rest of us had no connection to
anyone in the wedding. He said that he
was looking for people in the region who were known to possess items of magical
power, which I found to be very odd for sure, but then, I’m not a Royal. With the Princess alive once again, Vos-trin
dismissed us.
Back at the Inn, Morchid and the innkeep got into another
argument about food, but we did get a decent meal. Afterward, we went back out to the festival to
watch the fireworks and we were joined by Berry, the odd cleric from the
wedding. After a time, we heard
screaming in the distance. We rushed off
to see what was happening and we discovered a much larger and more snake-like Yuan-ti who had been attacking folks and poisoning them. We dispatched the creature and Berry set to
work, healing the injured carnival-goers.
Back at the Tavern, after yet another argument with Zerv, Morchid
decided to sleep outside. Squish wanted
to watch over him so I currently have the room to myself. I’m going to take some time before I sleep to
work on my equipment. I’ve got particular
plans for my armor and my satchel.
Day 3, Duvin 39: In the morning, the others were all
gone when I went downstairs, this time with all of my belongings including my
crossbow, my newly enhanced armor and a new bag of holding.
As I was speaking with Zerv, the others returned including
Morchid who was in the form of a large cat-like creature. Zerv refused to let the beast inside and cast
a Wall of Force over the door to prevent entry and another argument began. Eventually everyone calmed down and I went
outside to talk with them. As we
discussed what do next, a servant of the Queen of Loria showed up and told us
that she wanted to speak with us at the Town Hall. I hoped it was for a reward and not some form
of conscription.
